Dusita Blog guest of the month: meet Rahul Agarwal

This month we welcome Rahul, known in the fragrance community under the alias @eternalscentjourney. His main platform as a content creator is Instagram, where he posts fragrance writings illustrated by striking photos, as well as interesting interviews with perfumers and brand founders. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him (along with his lovely family) in person, and I can attest to his kindness, warmth, and great sense of humour!

Q: Welcome to the Dusita Blog, Rahul! Will you please introduce yourself to our readers?

A: My name is Rahul Agarwal. I was born in India but moved to Germany in 2011, to obtain my Master's degree. I have been living in Germany ever since and, by now, it feels like home. I have also stayed in China for 5 months as an exchange student, which proved to be an exciting experience. I recently left my job to pursue a career as a full-time freelancer in online marketing, helping brands with advertising, web analytics, etc. I always thought I’d keep my two passions (marketing & fragrances) separate from one other but 3 months ago I finally took the leap!

Apart from perfume, I love traveling, photography (mainly fragrances), listening to music, and watching movies (mostly crime stories, thrillers, court dramas, and horror films). I also consider myself a family man—I love spending as much time as possible with my wife and my 4-year-old son.

Q: What is the meaning of fragrance in your life?

A: As I was growing up in India, fragrance wasn’t just a luxury; scents were woven into the fabric of daily life, culture, and tradition. Scent has shaped my world, whether it was the spice box that my mom had in our kitchen or the fresh tuberoses that my aunt used to wear in her hair every day. Everything was a sensorial experience that started at home and extended to the bustling streets, spice bazaars, sacred temples, and places of spiritual importance. Fragrance was also a part of beauty rituals, like dabbing sandalwood paste on the forehead, massaging hair with fragrant oils of jasmine or hibiscus, or sprinkling one’s face with rosewater for freshness. These scents weren’t just beautifying, they were nurturing and grounding.

Now that I live away from home, I see fragrances as the language of nostalgia and a direct gateway to emotions, memories, and personal identity. A scent with cardamom and other spices may remind me of the masala chai that my mom used to make; a whiff of vanilla can remind me of my grandmother’s home-baked cookies; and a citrus fragrance can conjure up the memories of a summer vacation by the sea. I feel that fragrances keep the memories alive, in the present. To this day, these smells remain my anchor to childhood, a reminder of where I come from, and the endless beauty that fragrance holds in its invisible embrace. Fragrances allow me to express my mood, or even emotions, without uttering a word. Most importantly, they distill the poetry of the natural world—may it be fields of lavender, forests of cedar, or the zest of sun-kissed citrus. Fragrances remind us of our primal connection to the Earth.

I got deeply interested in perfume 5 years ago and saw fragrance exploring as a journey of self-discovery. Each scent somehow invited introspection—it made me ask myself “how does this make me feel?” or “who does this remind me of?”. It’s an artful, intimate ritual that somehow slowed down time and brought me closer to my senses.

Q: How did you get to know Parfums Dusita and which of Pissara’s fragrances is your favorite?

A: I got to smell the Dusita collection 5 years ago, when I first attended Esxence Milan. Imagine me, a newbie in the fragrance world (I had only been familiar with niche perfumes for 4 months), trying Oudh Infini! I was quite taken aback by its boldness and only later did I fully appreciate the scent. I must say that I was charmed by Pissara’s positive aura even before I got to explore her fragrances, having watched one of her interviews where she spoke about her father, his poetry, and how she was trying to translate it into scent. Later on, I dove deep into her creations, and I was spellbound. I feel that fragrances are works of art, crafted by perfumers who blend their visions into liquid emotions. With Dusita fragrances, I feel that I participate in this artistry, carrying a piece of it into my life.

What I appreciate most is the Dusita DNA. I find that all Dusita fragrances have so much soul and character! Wearing Pissara’s creations transports me to her unique world; only her fragrances manage to do that, thanks to their distinctive signature. Pissara’s work on florals (those magical bouquets that most of her creations feature) is extraordinary. Her floral accords are recognizable even when I blind-smell a fragrance, and I have a lot of respect for that. It’s really hard to single out just one fragrance. Issara has a special place in my heart. Every time I spray it, It feels like the very first time I have it on. Erawan, as well. I used to shy away from green fragrances, but Erawan changed that. It’s still one of the most unique green fragrances I have put my nose on. Montri is a stunning fragrance, too, and so is Pelagos. All these perfumes perfectly showcase Pissara’s versatility and talent.
